Leslie West
The encaustic media allows me to create three dimensional textures on a two-dimensional surface. I draw inspiration from nature and the interaction of nature with man. When man made materials react to nature the results can be beautiful – a rusted sheet of metal, a weathered door or window, a stained and deteriorated concrete wall.
As I traveled the world with my family I would gravitate to, and take photos of walls, old doors, rusty oil drums, moss covered rocks. Now I use my art to create similar images.
With my three-dimensional art – which I like to call “Lost and Found” – I combine various found objects to create interesting pieces. I am known to stop in the middle of the street to pick up a rusty washer or bolt.
